I must confess that although I am a fan of cannibal movies in general, I had been putting off watching Slave of the Cannibal God for quite a while now. Why? Well there were two reason really and they are Ursula Andress and Stacy Keach. I just couldn’t imagine that a cannibal movie would work with two big(ish) names involved. I mean let’s face it, when I think of Ursula Andress the first thing that springs to mind is James Bond, or to be more precise Ursula in a swimsuit in Dr Continue reading »

Beautiful art-students are being picked off by some loon in a balaclava! So naturally it’s time for the ever-decreasing group to get away from all the violence and head into the back of beyond for a holiday in a huge mansion… deep in the woods… on top of a mountain – genius! Of course, the killer has followed them there and it’s not too long before the already depleted numbers start to decrease even further!
Torso is a blast from start to finish. The film is packed with gorgeous women (including Bird with the Crystal Plumage alum Suzy Kendall), often in the buff (excluding Kendall Continue reading »

Susan (Ursula Andress) Stevenson’s ethnologist husband has gone missing during an expedition in New Guinea. Susan goes after him, enlisting his friend Edward Foster (Stacy Keach) as a guide. The missing man was last seen headed for a “cursed” mountain on an island. The trip there is fraught with peril from animals and natives, as well as the prospect of betrayal by members of the search party with ulterior motives. Finally, at the mountain, the remaining members of the expedition must cope with a Stone Age cannibal tribe. Is there any escape?
What are well-known actors like Andress and Keach doing in one of the infamous Italian cannibal films? This one distinguishes itself by being largely Continue reading »

It’s always a pleasure of mine to kick back and watch a Sergio Martino flick. Purely for the fact that he makes trash cinema almost seem acceptable to outsiders who may gaze in on my viewing. His films always look pretty, with beautiful people in beautiful locations. Only during all this beauty these people are doing God knows what to God knows who for reasons only God knows why! But because it all looks so nice, people don’t seem to mind so much. Go figure?
What I also appreciate about Martino is that he is one of the Giallo genre’s greatest architects. Sure Bava and Argento get most of the acclaim, and deservedly so, but Martino helped to add much of what we love about the genre Continue reading »

First things first, what an absolutely splendid name for a movie, they sure don’t name them like this anymore. If names alone won prizes, this one would clean house. Unfortunately for such a wonderful title the movie itself is somewhat of a let down.
Oliviero (Luigi Pistilli) is a writer who since the death of his mother has become an alcoholic womanizer and likes nothing more than to party all night, much to the displeasure of his long suffering wife. Right from the first scene he humiliates her in front of his friends, forcing her to drink down a mixture of everybody’s wine.
To make matters worse for her even her husbands Continue reading »
