After being brutally beaten and forced to watch his girlfriend gang raped by skinheads, Steve devises payback by taking on the mantle of a racist skin and ingratiating himself to the local crew responsible for the crime against he and his late girlfriend. His goal is to eventually dole out a little hardcore justice but he begins losing his way and becoming the very scum he dedicated himself to eradicating. Many people were left with unfavorable opinions of Land of the Dead, Romero’s big-budget studio picture; as a result he has gone back to his guerrilla film-making roots to produce a low-budget zombie flick with a difference. British readers will be aware that the diary/mockumentary approach is nothing new now; The Zombie Diaries has pipped Romero to the punch. American readers will not have seen that yet as it’s currently being sat on by the fat asses of the Weinstein boys – a fate far worse that death, I’m sure.

One thing about reviewing movies for Joe Horror that I really love is the variety of flicks I get to choose from. I get to review older movies, some real obscure shit, the latest big screen all flash and no panache wannabe blockbuster and on occasion the odd new movie that has yet to either be released or doesn’t have distribution just yet. It never gets boring as I don’t stick to any one sub-genre, as they say (whoever they are) variety is the spice of life.

If I were to pinpoint the moment that I knew that I was a seriously twisted little monkey, it would have to be a particular magical night at the sweet, tender age of twelve. I was reading a magazine in my parents’ dank basement, and I happened upon an article showcasing three highly controversial films released in 1990: The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover, Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, and Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

I often wonder what the board room of the local exploitation film company sounds like. I can almost hear it in my head. It starts out as a grosser than gross joke. Once a subject has been decided on via the joke, the board then discusses how they can make it as “real life” as possible. Should it be a documentary (or mockumentary) can they find a way to add real life footage to the film, would it be possible to add sex or maybe a really bloody reenactment.

Gross & Boring

We’ve all heard the story about the man who bled to death, from internal injuries, after getting fucked by a horse, haven’t we? Hell, some of you may have even seen the video out there on the World Wide Web. What we have here though, if the story behind the man who suffered that rather unfortunate fate, known only as Mr. Hands (played by John Paulson) to us – but here we are told the story from people who were there, his online friends who also share Mr Hand’s morbid desire to get down and dirty with a horse… or a goat, bull, chicken, dog, cat… You get my drift.
