Original DVD Release

Let me start of by saying that I very rarely pay any attention to the blurb, or bollocks as I like to call it, on the cover of DVDs. I have fallen for the hype in the past where covers have proclaimed this, that or the other about their wonderful product. “Banned in whatever backwoods country” or “too shocking for this and that”. More often than not it is absolute crap, and is just a cheap ploy to boost sales.

There is the odd exception to this of course, but on the whole the blurb generally amounts to a big pile of false promises.

All of which brings me nicely to The Asylums wannabe shocker Freakshow. I rented this for a couple of Continue reading »

Original DVD Release

With so many zombie movies getting made and released these days it has become harder and harder to separate the shite from the good stuff. So when a good one does find its way into my DVD player it’s almost an excuse to have a party. Actually I don’t need an excuse for that but you know what I mean.

When I received Dead Men Walking I have to admit I wasn’t exactly expecting much. Zombies in a prison, whoopty-doo sounds like a cracker doesn’t it. Upon watching it though I was pleasantly surprised. But then, when your expectations are low I suppose the only way is up. That’s a little unfair though as this movie is above the usual quality that I have come to expect. Continue reading »

Colonel Rufus King (Thomas Downey), no relation to Hannibal King, is a man on a mission. Rufus and The Nine, a small group of nine individuals, are charged with protecting the world and keeping the balance between vampires and the human race. This means protecting humans as well as vampires.

When The Old One (Leigh Scott), the leader of the vampire clans, calls a meeting with Rufus and the Nine, he offers them a truce. In exchange for no more hunting or feeding on humans, Rufus and The Nine must refrain from hunting and destroying vampires.

Naturally, Jacob Van Helsing (Rhett Giles) doesn’t trust the truce and warns Rufus to keep an eye out Continue reading »

Hold onto your seats because I’m about to spring another bitchfest on you all.

Horror fans don’t ask for much. We ask for intelligent horror. We ask for scary horror (how dare us ask for SCARY horror films, right?). We ask for original, creative concepts and we ask that it’s not made with our little sister and her friend Tina in mind. Is that so much to ask? I don’t think so.

Remakes are all the rage right now. Just secure the rights to an old classic or even an old clunker, hire on an MTV music director or film school graduate with no credentials, stir in some pop culture references and then dumb Continue reading »

Ever wonder why so few demonic possession films are made nowadays? Though some of you could probably come up with quite a few reasons, some of which might include the words “suck”, “shitty” and “they bite my o-ring”, the reality is…most filmmakers know there’s no way they’re going to compete with Friedkin’s The Exorcist. Can you blame them? It’s not on every “Greatest Horror Films Ever Made” top ten lists from here to Mozambique for nothing! Though there’s been a few cool attempts and blatant rip-off’s, nothing has made waves.

Several months back we saw the emergence of a new Continue reading »

Horrible!

Imagine dropping a gold coin in a pig sty. Do you want it bad enough? Is the gold coin really worth slopping through pig feces and left over items from Farmer John’s “sheep night”? Will the pigs and your friends laugh at you for diving into the sty? Well, the answer to all of those questions is yes…yes the gold coin is worth it…yes your friends will laugh at you and yes…the pigs will as well. Watching Death Valley is no different. You just know there’s gotta be a gold coin in this sty but you’ll be damned if you can find it.

The film starts out with a weasely, fugitive drug dealer in the middle of a hot pursuit and shaking Continue reading »
