Laura and her daughter teen Stephanie move to the small town of Copper Valley, Arizona to get away from the dangerous L.A. city life. When the mysterious driver of a sinister black Dodge Charger is linked to the abduction and rape of several young girls in the area things become increasingly frightening. After the killer kidnaps Stephanie right in front of her mother, Laura must try and rescue her daughter before it’s too late. A deadly race through the desert will decide just who lives and who dies.
This 1990 made-for-cable film, originally aired on the USA Network, stars Joanna Cassidy (Blade Runner) as Laura and Marcie Leeds (Near Dark) as her daughter Stephanie. Both did excellent jobs in their respective roles.
The film starts off slowly, taking its time to show hot shot courier Laura struggling to raise her child right and their move from L.A. Naturally her career behind the wheel comes in handy later.
For a TV movie this goes places you would not expect (child molestation) and features some very creepy sequences. Just glimpsing the original artwork featuring a foreboding black vehicle sporting an evil grin should tell you right away what kind of film this is going to be. Of course Laura’s child is kidnapped and off we go on a hell of a chase! Lots of great stunts and some thrilling moments make this a must-see for action fans and those that love cheesy cinema. So remember to keep an eye out for a car with an evil grin while you’re traveling alone down that long, dark road!
