In this sequel to the popular slasher film, a new group of camp counselors have come to manage the new Camp Crystal Lake right next to the old campgrounds which have now since been condemned in hopes to put the rumors of Mrs. Voorhees son Jason roaming the woods, killing anyone who he comes across. Unfortunately for them – the rumors are all too true and soon enough Jason begins his bloody revenge hoping to satisfy his blood lust.
Friday the 13th Part 2 has the prestigious clout to grant the first appearance of the now infamous killer, Jason Voorhees, and raising the bar yet again for violent gory kills. The characters in this film are a less bit more whiny and have a bit more character depth than in the first film, but that doesn’t stop anyone from guessing who’s going to go and when. Anyone who has seen the first film can pick off who’s going to make it and who is not, hell anyone who has seen any sort of a horror film can rule that one out, but the film still manages to be fun and creative enough to keep the viewer interested.
This is the first film to follow several sequels and what most believe to be one of the better of the films. I like this one, but it’s not a favorite. It does what it’s supposed to and does it well but the film definitely shows its age and for that unfortunate reason, has become very dated and nowhere near as shocking as it was when it originally came out. This new edition of the infamous sequel manages to be slightly better than previous editions but the lack of deleted scenes, commentary, etc. that we would normally get from a film of this fame is missing on this edition. Especially considering the amount of people who are going to run out in buy this for the new transfer alone, you’d think they would have thrown more onto the new disc. Guess they’re saving everything for the inevitable Blu Ray release of all 8 films. Until then, this will have to do.
