DVD Release

The wildlife television show Strange Wilderness is facing cancellation and there’s only one thing that can possibly save the show, the discovery of the legendary Bigfoot! Son of the original host, and now current host, Peter Gaulke and his merry band of idiots, stoners and losers set out into the wilds of Ecuador in search of the monster and hopefully new life for the TV show!

Comedy these days is definitely not what it used to be, that’s for sure. I’m not saying Strange Wilderness wasn’t a funny film; it just didn’t have the charm of films like Revenge of the Nerds, Caddyshack or Cheech & Chong’s Up In Smoke. If films like Super Troopers, Grandma’s Boy and Superbad appealed to you, I don’t see any reason why this wouldn’t. Granted, it’s nowhere near as funny as the above but there were some laugh-out-loud sequences that’ll be remembered long after this film fades from the memories of comedy junkies.

One thing I should mention about some of the performances in Strange Wilderness, Zahn, Covert, Dante and Long were hilarious but man…what was the deal with Jonah Hill? There wasn’t anything remotely funny about his character or any of his dialogue; he sucked in a major way. If the looks of confusion on the faces of my drunken buddies were any indication, I wasn’t the only one wondering what Hill was saying most of the time. If he ad-libbed his lines, he shouldn’t have.

I guarantee you’ll be screaming with laughter during some sequences and scratching your heads on others. Lemme just say this, Strange Wilderness was mildly entertaining and could probably be considered a minor masterpiece in comparison to Balls of Fury but don’t expect much. It’s just okay.

Meh. I laughed myself silly during a small portion of this film but it didn’t stand up to a second viewing and I’ll be damned if I force myself to watch Jonah Hill’s idiotic performance one more time. I’m not going to pontificate on what I feel would have made this a better film, I just wasn’t entertained. If you need to see this, I’d recommend you just rent.
