During a New Year’s Eve party in an abandoned high rise building, a small group of people are invited to “the real party” a floor below the festivities. Unwilling to miss out on the V.I.P. party, the group head downstairs only to discover, much to their horror, that they’re not guests but prisoners! One by one the guests begin dying and the only one way to stop the killer is to work together to find an exit and a connection between all of the guests! Can they escape the terror of the 27th floor before it’s too late?

Saw rip-off you say? Poorly scripted dialogue worthy of the worst High School drama class play you say? The odds of all the guests having grown up with one another, attended the same school and all gone into the entertainment industry without knowing one another is astronomical you say?

Steel Trap is a derivative slasher clone that features horrible dialogue, unconvincing acting, plot twists only the blind couldn’t see coming and characters that you’d prefer to see slaughtered. So what exactly makes this film worth checking out? In my opinion absolutely nothing. The entire thing felt so contrived and tired; the impossibly silent slasher was your general run-of-the-mill masked loon and the “traps” were far, few between and ultimately weak. As the film progressed, I felt my lips pursing tighter and tighter in ever-decreasing anticipation of the grand revelation, the very revelation I’d figured out almost 25 minutes into the film.

Personally I’m a bit surprised that Dimension Extreme is releasing this film on their imprint. I mean Dimension Extreme may not have the greatest track record when it comes to solid releases but this selection is just plain confusing as it was so damn bad. Did they watch this before acquiring it? Steel Trap is a major miss (and mess) and fans of Saw should just stick to the Saw franchise because you won’t be finding anything new, interesting or original here.

Avoid avoid avoid. Sure I’ve seen worse but that doesn’t mean this deserves a pass for being only mildly bad. Bad is bad and this will be a complete waste of your money to purchase or even rent. If you must see it because you cannot live without seeing yet another shitty slasher film, go for it, just remember you’ve been warned.
