After being paralyzed by a gunman’s bullet, Robert Ironside, once a respected Chief of Detectives, now fights crime from his wheelchair as a consultant for the SFPD aided by his crack team of police buds and reformed criminal. Crime had better steer clear of San Fran because Ironside and his wheels of justice won’t take guff from anybody!

Honestly, I really do love old shows like this because they’re so incredibly dated and crotchety; they make for some hilarious viewing when you’ve got nothing better to do. I would occasionally watch this as a kid alongside Lost in Space, I Love Lucy, The Addams Family and M*A*S*H and it’s exactly as I remember it…not incredibly interesting but entertaining enough to be better than doing absolutely nothing.

Ironside is sort of like the House M.D. of 60s crime thriller television, if that makes any sense at all. Ironside is difficult, insensitive and even a little prejudiced; what’s up with Marc Sanger taking that crap from some rude, crippled white dude? Don’t get me wrong, Ironside’s a likable character but he really fits more into that “you love to hate him” anti-hero category I suppose.

Some of my favorite episodes include, “The Prophecy,” “A World of Jackals,” “A Drug on the Market” & “I, The People.”

I dig Ironside but you’ve really gotta be a fan to purchase the complete 2nd season. Granted, they do offer you a few catch-up episodes in the beginning of this season for those not acquainted with Ironside’s “accident” but this is really more of a “diehard fan” type deal. If you’ve never seen Ironside or you aren’t a big fan of old school TV be sure to borrow the set from a friend and watch before purchasing.
